Dear EEGS Members:

The end of December marks a milestone for EEGS, with a transition of editors for the Journal of Environmental and Engineering Geophysics (JEEG) and for FastTIMES.

Dale Rucker has served as Editor for JEEG since late 2016. Under Dale’s outstanding leadership, JEEG has experienced significant advancement, making it now the leading scientific journal focused on near surface geophysics. The JEEG impact factor, during Dale’s tenure, has steadily increased, with the present SCIMAGO rating of 3.3 and Scopus CiteScore of 3.0 being the highest since JEEG’s inception. As Editor, Dale was furthermore responsible for the publication of several important special issues of JEEG, covering topics such as urban underground space (v 24-4: 2019), ground penetrating radar (v 23-4: 2018), geophysics in China (v 23-2: 2018), and airborne geophysics (v 22-1: 2017). Dale will certainly be missed, but he is turning JEEG over to very capable hands, with our new JEEG Editors, Sasha Varnavina and Afshin Aghayan, set to take over in January 2021. On behalf of everyone at EEGS, Thankyou Dale, for the fantastic job you have done with JEEG!

Geoff Pettifer became FastTIMES Editor-in-Chief in late Summer 2017, and he has since taken FastTIMES to whole new, very high levels, which I, as a previous FastTIMES Editor- in-Chief, would have found hard to  imagine. The number of articles published has increased dramatically and each FastTIMES is currently devoted to a  topic that is  timely and of great interest to the practicing near surface geophysical community. FastTIMES, under Geoff’s direction, now targets engagement and outreach to the topic relevant end-user geoscience and geo-engineering societies. Geoff has also added several news sections to FastTIMES, including those related to agriculture, mining, UXO, hydrogeology/environment, infrastructure, archeology/forensics, and the government sector. Because of Geoff, FastTIMES is in  excellent shape. As is the case for JEEG, FastTIMES will remain in good hands, with German Ojeda taking over for Geoff as Editor-in-Chief beginning January 2021. To help smooth the transition, Geoff will stay on as a FastTIMES Associate Editor. Thanks Geoff, from all of us at EEGS, for all your extremely impressive work on FastTIMES!

As a final item, the first EEGS Talk About Geophysics (TAG) webinar is scheduled for January 13, 2021. Dr. G. Didem Beskardes, the 2019 recipient of the Alan Witten Award for best JEEG article, will be giving a talk on “Power Density Distribution in Subsurface Fractures Due to an Energized Steel Well-Casing Source”. Please plan to attend. For more information or to register for this event, go to: https://www.eegs.org/tag-webinar- series-talk-about-geophysics-.

Best Regards,
